Google Pixel Watch 5
The current Pixel Watch read as a running watch: dual-frequency GPS, a 3,000-nit screen, 5 ATM plus IP68, up to 40 hours, from $399.99
Scored on the published rubric, from documentation, pricing and verified user reports.
Best for: An Android phone owner who runs a few times a week, wants dual-frequency GPS and a very bright screen on a full smartwatch, and will charge it every day or two.
Verdict
The Google Pixel Watch 5 is the Android answer to the Apple Watch, and its running spec sheet is stronger than Apple's on two rows. Google's tech specs page, checked October 17, 2026, lists dual-frequency GPS (GPS, Galileo, GLONASS), an AMOLED LTPO display rated up to 3,000 nits, 5 ATM water resistance under ISO 22810:2010 plus IP68, and battery life of up to 30 hours on the 41 mm and up to 40 hours on the 45 mm with the always-on display. This is a documentation review built from the Google Store tech specs, the store configuration page and the Pixel Watch Help Center; we did not wear or run with the watch. The weak rows are battery and warranty. Google's help article gives 8 to 10 hours of continuous GPS for Pixel Watch generally, well under the Garmin and Coros figures, the warranty is one year, and Google's own footnote states that liquid damage voids it. It pairs only with Android 12 or newer.

Where it is strong
- Dual-frequency GPS listed on the spec sheet (GPS, Galileo, GLONASS), unlike the single-band L1 on the Apple Watch Series 12
- Up to 3,000 nits peak brightness and a 1-nit always-on minimum, the highest published brightness in this cluster
- Up to 40 hours with always-on display on the 45 mm and 72 hours in Battery Saver, per Google
- 5 ATM (ISO 22810:2010) and IP68 (IEC 60529) ratings both published
- ECG-capable electrical sensors, SpO2, skin temperature, cEDA and a multi-path optical heart rate sensor
- Small and large bands both in the box, with published fit ranges for each case size
Where it falls short
- Google's help center gives 8 to 10 hours of continuous GPS for Pixel Watch, against 20 hours on the Garmin Forerunner 265 and 38 on the Coros Pace 3
- Android 12 or newer only; no iPhone pairing
- One-year warranty, and Google's water footnote states liquid damage voids it
- No lug width published; replacement bands are Pixel Watch bands rather than standard-width straps
- Adaptive coaching sits behind Google Health Premium, a paid subscription after the included trial

What the Google Pixel Watch 5 actually is
The Pixel Watch 5 is Google's full smartwatch: a round aluminum case on Wear OS 7.0, a Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 chip, 64 GB of storage, a speaker and microphone, and Google's health sensors. It is sold in 41 mm and 45 mm, both 12.3 mm tall, per the Google Store tech specs checked October 17, 2026.
It is a smartwatch first and a running watch second. That is the reverse of the Garmin and Coros watches in this cluster. The running case for it rests on two published rows: dual-frequency GPS and a 3,000-nit display.
The slug of this page carries no generation number on purpose. When Google ships the next Pixel Watch, this review is updated in place with a dated changelog, the same approach as our Apple Watch Series review.
For the terms used below, our watch spec sheet primer explains case diameter, water ratings and why a 5 ATM sports watch is not a dive watch.
Who the Pixel Watch 5 is best for
The Pixel Watch 5 fits a runner who already lives in Android and wants one device. Based on the published spec sheet, these are the buyers it suits.
- Android 12+ phone owners who want runs, Google Wallet, messages and Gemini on one watch
- Runners in cities or under trees who want dual-frequency GPS without buying a dedicated sports watch
- People who run in bright sun; Google publishes up to 3,000 nits peak brightness
- Runners who want safety features: Satellite SOS is included at no extra charge for two years after activation, per Google
- Anyone who wants the option of LTE so the phone can stay home, at $499.99 on the configuration page
- Who should skip it: iPhone owners, marathon and ultra runners who need long GPS sessions, and anyone who wants a multi-year warranty
How the pricing works
The Google Store listed the 41 mm Bluetooth/Wi-Fi model from $399.99 and the 45 mm from $429.99 on October 17, 2026. With the 41 mm selected, the 4G LTE option showed $499.99, and Google included two years of Google Fi data with LTE models. The Stephen Curry Special Edition was $579.99.
The watch comes with a Quick Charge Dock and both small and large Active Bands. The 30 W wall adapter that Google's charging-speed figures assume is sold separately, per the spec page footnote.
Two add-ons change the total. Pixel Care+ was $6 a month or $119 for two years, or $7 a month or $139 with loss and theft cover. Google Health Premium is included for three months; the store footnote says that trial renews at $9.99 a month unless cancelled.
Editorial arithmetic: a 45 mm watch plus two years of Pixel Care+ comes to $548.99 before tax, without Premium. That is $99 more than the Garmin Forerunner 265 at $449.99 with no subscription at all.

Ease: fit ranges, screen and charging
Ease scores well because Google publishes the figures a buyer needs to choose a size.
Fit is the clearest. Both bands come in the box. On the 41 mm, small fits 130 to 175 mm and large 165 to 210 mm wrists. On the 45 mm, small fits 150 to 185 mm and large 165 to 215 mm. The weights are 31.0 g and 36.7 g without band.
The display is rated up to 3,000 nits peak and 1 nit minimum in always-on mode, at 320 ppi with a 1 to 60 Hz refresh. That is 1,000 nits above the 2,000 Apple publishes for the Series 12. Garmin and Coros publish no brightness figure.
Charging is fast on paper. The spec page lists about 15 minutes to 50 percent on both sizes, 25 minutes to 80 percent on the 41 mm and 30 minutes on the 45 mm. Google's help article says 0 to 80 percent in 20 minutes; the two Google pages disagree, so we report both.
Inputs are a side button, a haptic crown, touch and touchless one-handed gestures. Setup needs the Google Pixel Watch app and a Google Account on the paired phone.
Features: what the spec sheet does and does not say
The feature score rests on GPS and sensors, and is held back by what Google leaves unpublished.
GPS is the headline. The spec sheet lists Dual Frequency GPS across GPS, Galileo and GLONASS, and the overview calls it Google's best GPS. BeiDou and QZSS are not listed. Google publishes no accuracy figure and, on the product pages, no battery cost for a GPS run.
The sensor list is the longest in this cluster: multi-path optical heart rate, multipurpose electrical sensors compatible with the ECG app, red and infrared SpO2, far-field skin temperature, a cEDA skin conductance sensor, compass, altimeter, barometer, magnetometer, accelerometer, gyroscope and ambient light. Google notes SpO2 and skin temperature are not available in all countries.
Connectivity covers Bluetooth 6.0, Wi-Fi 2.4 and 5 GHz, NFC, ultra-wideband, optional 4G LTE and Satellite SOS.
Training features named on the overview include custom workout builders, real-time audio guidance, weekly cardio goals and daily readiness. Adaptive coaching built with Gemini requires Google Health Premium, per the page footnote.
Missing from the sheet: a running-specific battery table, a lug width, and any figure for barometric or heart rate accuracy. Compare that with the seven-mode battery table Garmin publishes. Our running shoe spec sheet primer makes the same point about shoe brands that skip stack height.
Value: fair hardware price, short GPS battery
Value lands in the middle. The hardware price is competitive; the running battery is not.
At $399.99 for 41 mm, the Pixel Watch 5 matches the Apple Watch Series 12 entry price of $399 within a dollar, and the 45 mm at $429.99 is about $19 below Apple's $449 46 mm model. For that, Google adds dual-frequency GPS and 1,000 more nits.
Against the running watches, the trade is battery for apps. The Coros Pace 3 lists 38 hours of standard GPS at $199. The Garmin Forerunner 265 lists 20 hours GPS-only at $449.99. Google's help center gives Pixel Watch 8 to 10 hours of continuous GPS.
The subscription is the hidden cost. Core tracking works without it, but the coaching features on the overview page need Google Health Premium after the three-month trial.
If a first watch is mostly about logging runs, our daily trainers for new runners guide shows that a $150 pair of shoes is the bigger lever for a beginner.
Support: one year, and liquid damage voids it
Support is the lowest score on this page, and the reason is in Google's own footnotes.
The tech specs page lists a one-year warranty. The water-resistance footnote then says the watch is not waterproof, that water and dust resistance diminish over time, that drops are not covered, and, in Google's words, "Liquid damage voids the warranty." For a watch marketed for workouts, that sentence is worth reading before purchase.
Pixel Care+ fills part of the gap. The store page lists unlimited accidental damage cover from day one, mechanical and electrical failure cover after the manufacturer's year, and $0 screen and battery repairs, at $119 for two years.
Software support is described as Pixel Drops, periodic feature updates. Google's product page does not state a number of years of updates for the watch.
Against the cluster, one year matches Apple and Garmin and trails the two years Coros publishes. The resin-band Casio G-Shock GA2100 also carries one year, but it is rated 200 m and has no charging port to fail.
What verified owners report
We have no verified owner numbers to report for this watch, and we will not fill the gap from elsewhere.
The Google Store pages we read on October 17, 2026 showed no owner rating or review count. The Pixel Watch 5 went on sale in 2026, so long-term reliability data is limited by time as well. We do not take ratings from search snippets or unverified forums.
What the documentation does show is that Google publishes a battery health policy: over time, Pixel software manages battery performance as the cell ages, per the spec page footnote. That is a disclosure, not a reliability record.
This section will be updated and dated when verified owner data is readable on the Google Store or on a retailer with verified-purchase labels. The Brooks Ghost review shows what this section looks like when a brand does publish owner ratings.
Alternatives
Three watches overlap with the Pixel Watch 5 for a runner, and the phone in your pocket decides most of it.
Apple Watch Series 12. Choose it if you own an iPhone: from $399, 2,000 nits, ECG and up to 10 hours of outdoor-run GPS, per our Apple Watch Series review. Otherwise choose the Pixel Watch, since neither pairs with the other's phone platform.
Garmin Forerunner 265. Choose it if you train for races and want 20 hours GPS-only, 13 days in smartwatch mode and a standard 22 mm strap at $449.99. Otherwise choose the Pixel Watch for LTE, Wear OS apps and the brighter screen.
Coros Pace 3. Choose it if GPS battery and price lead: 38 hours of standard GPS, 30 g on nylon, $199 and a two-year warranty. Otherwise choose the Pixel Watch for its AMOLED screen, payments and the larger sensor set.
If you want a watch that needs no charger at all, the solar Citizen Promaster diver is rated to 200 m and carries a 5-year warranty, but it records nothing.
Bottom line
The Google Pixel Watch 5 publishes the best screen and GPS rows of any platform smartwatch in our cluster: 3,000 nits and dual-frequency reception, from $399.99.
The case against it, for running, is the battery and the warranty. Google's own help center puts continuous GPS at 8 to 10 hours, the warranty is one year, and liquid damage voids it.
Buy it if you use Android and run a few times a week. If you race long distances, a Garmin or Coros sports watch documents more battery for the same or less money. And if you are buying shoes at the same time, our Brooks Ghost vs Hoka Clifton comparison covers the two most common first daily trainers.
Buy it if
- You use an Android phone running Android 12 or newer and want one watch for runs, payments, messages and safety features
- Your runs are under two hours and charging every day or two is acceptable
- You want dual-frequency GPS on a full smartwatch rather than a dedicated sports watch
- You run outdoors in bright sun; Google publishes 3,000 nits, the highest figure in this cluster
Skip it if
- You own an iPhone; the Pixel Watch 5 will not pair with it
- You are training for a marathon or longer and need GPS hours in the double digits with margin
- You want a warranty longer than one year or a standard-width strap
Frequently asked
How much does the Google Pixel Watch 5 cost?
On October 17, 2026 the Google Store listed the 41 mm Bluetooth/Wi-Fi model from $399.99, the 45 mm from $429.99, the 4G LTE option at $499.99 on the configuration page, and the Stephen Curry Special Edition at $579.99. Pixel Care+ is extra at $6 a month or $119 for two years.
How long does the Pixel Watch 5 battery last with GPS?
Google does not publish a model-specific GPS figure for the Pixel Watch 5. Its Pixel Watch Help Center states 8 to 10 hours of battery life with continuous GPS use. All-day figures are up to 30 hours (41 mm) and 40 hours (45 mm) with always-on display, as of October 2026.
Does the Pixel Watch 5 work with an iPhone?
No. Google's tech specs page says it works with most phones running Android 12.0 or newer and requires a Google Account and the Google Pixel Watch app. It is not compatible with Android Go edition phones.
Can you swim with the Pixel Watch 5?
Google rates it 5 ATM under ISO 22810:2010 and IP68, and says it is designed for shallow water, not high-velocity or high-temperature water. The same footnote states that water resistance diminishes over time and that liquid damage voids the warranty.
Does the Pixel Watch 5 have dual-frequency GPS?
Yes. The tech specs page lists Dual Frequency GPS covering GPS, Galileo and GLONASS. BeiDou and QZSS are not listed, which the Garmin Forerunner 265 and Coros Pace 3 both include. Google publishes no accuracy figure in meters.
Which Pixel Watch 5 size should I buy for running?
The 45 mm has the larger 465 mAh battery, up to 40 hours versus 30, and weighs 36.7 g without band against 31.0 g. Both include small and large bands; the 41 mm covers 130 to 210 mm wrists and the 45 mm 150 to 215 mm, per Google.
Do I need a subscription for the Pixel Watch 5?
No for core tracking. Google says some features require Google Health Premium, including adaptive coaching built with Gemini. The watch includes three months of Premium; the store footnote says the trial renews at $9.99 a month unless cancelled.
